What Does Torquay’s 10 Point Deduction Mean And How Does It Affect Them Long Term?

This article is a follow up to the Torquay United article I did a few weeks previous. Today it has been confirmed that United will be given a 10 point deduction and will slip down to 17th in the National League South only 3 points above the relegation zone. In this article I will be discussing how this could affect their future as a football club

Recap

If you didn’t read my last article here is a quick recap to what has happened. Torquay United are a football club who were founded in 1899 and have competed in mainly the Football League and the National League. Clarke Osborne the owner of Torquay recently put the club in administration due to being unable to fund the club. It was unknown what the punishment for Torquay entering administration would be but today it has been confirmed that Torquay will suffer a 10 point deduction and will fall to 17th in the table.

What The Point Deduction Does For Torquay

I think the answer is pretty clear, this points deduction could see the end of Torquay, this is because a buyer may be out of buying the club as they are at risk of being relegated. I think the points deduction is harsh as they could potentially cause an owner to pull out of buying the club. Overall I think the points deduction should have been given after the season to prevent an owner pulling out and making the club enter administration. I think the aim for Torquay will be to stay up and then try find an owner before the start of next season. If they are able to be successful in that, I’m sure they will be around the playoffs spots next season.

Final Thoughts

Overall it’s a worrying time at Torquay United and this points deduction hasn’t helpers in any way to prevent them worries. I think if Torquay stay up then they should be successful but we will just have to wait and see what the future holds.
