As we all know 90% of Efl fixtures throughout a season are played at 3pm Saturday to encourage people to watch them and not stay at home and watch a big team on tv this is why you never see a premier league game televised on a Saturday at 3pm but this is also hindering the EFL still even though the 3pm football blackout was made to help it.
There’s many ways to prove that people still can’t be bothered to go to a lower league game if a big club are on. For example when Stockport play at 3pm on a Saturday at home and Man City also play at 3pm that same Saturday. Stockport suffer with a lowered crowd due to the big club being a lot of people preference.
I have thought of a few solutions to save the lower end of the game and one of them may be slightly controversial:
Solution one is to scrap the three pm blackout in order to show a range of lower league football for example the broadcasters, e.g. Sky Bt etc, must show two EFL games each at 3pm across multiple channels so sky could have Portsmouth Vs Bolton and Ipswich Vs Leicester and Bt could have Carlisle Vs Peterborough and Stockport Vs Wrexham and this would bump viewership up across the EFL throughout the whole season.
Soloution two is to stagger all four fully professional league in England throughout the five normal tv slots in a weekend and it could be structured to show all football leagues e.g. League one on a Friday night,League two Saturday lunchtime ,Championship Saturday 5:15/5:30 slot
And the premier league staggered across the Sunday this would probably suit broadcasters more as they would be able to broadcast a similar number of top flight games and still be able to broadcast lower league games throughout the weekend
