(Both in the same season). Screams of corruption and incompetence have once again increased from Merseyside. -10 points, even reduced to 6 points has been considered by everyone (but the Premier League) to be grossly unfair. Especially, if you consider that Nottingham Forest were only docked 4 points, for what was a bigger PSR breach than both of Everton’s. If a total of eight points taken off isn’t enough for Everton fans to contend with, there is suddenly, out of the blue, a threat of a THIRD points deduction.
This “further hearing” and potentially new points deduction is unlikely to be this season, simply because there is so little time left in the campaign – and there are two appeals to sort out before anything else can happen. However this is just an educated guess, if there is to be further punishment this season, it would mean a horrific event of deciding the league’s relegation after all the games have been played.
Everton fans were actually a little relieved to be deducted only two points on Monday, the previous penalties of 10 or 6 no doubt inflicted huge fear into their minds. Minus 2 points is okay in comparison, but the total of 8 *so far* certainly is not. Everton have appealed, presumably excepting it to be successful following their previous success – just over a month ago. The expectation would also be that Nottingham Forest’s appeal is likewise a success. These separate events would be pretty damming for the likes of Luton, Brentford and Crystal Palace around them.
“The Premier League is making a mockery of themselves” – former Everton and current Luton Town winger.
Everton have fallen below Brentford, from 15th in the Premier League table, to 16th and find themselves only two points above it with crucial matches against Brentford, Forest, Sheffield United and Luton still to come.
