An Analysis On The Dramatic 24 Hours At Hartlepool United

In the strange 24 hours at Hartlepool United, we go through yesterday’s and today’s event and we gather me thoughts on this questionable decisions

Phillip’s Departure

Last night it was revealed by many journalists that Kevin Phillips would be leaving his role as manager due to not being able to agree a deal with the club, this would later be confirmed on Saturday morning, personally when I read the news that Phillips was leaving I was shocked. Phillips since arriving in January has made us more solid while being able to win games, overall like many things, I believe Phillips should have been given a chance this summer and he should have been given the opportunity to sign his players and build a squad that he wanted. It is also being rumoured that Antony Sweeney has left the club which hasn’t been confirmed by the club as of yet. The reaction online was angry and many fans called for chairman Raj Singh to sell the club. Personally this shows how popular Kevin Phillips was and how everyone believes he should have been given a chance. Phillips announcement was announced on the website this morning where the club stated “unfortunately due to being unable to agree a deal with manager Kevin Phillips, he leaves the club immediately, we would like to thank Kevin for all his hard work and wish him the best for the future.”

Sarll Is Announced

15 min after the Phillips announcement, It was announced that former Woking, Yeovil and Stevenage manager Darren Sarll had taken over. In my opinion I think Sarll is a fantastic appointment, he has experience in this league and has guided two teams to playoff finishes. Overall I think Sarll is a very safe option. He may not play the best football and he may not win every game, but I think he’s a man who will be able to help us gain promotion sooner rather than later. We will have to see who Sarll signs and appoints as his assistant but I think the future is bright for Hartlepool United.

Final Thoughts

Overall I’m excited about the Sarll era, like I said he’s a very safe option but I think he’s a man who will be able to guide us to promotion sooner rather than later. I do have sympathy for Kevin Phillips but I do think he’ll be back sooner rather than later at a new club.
