My Hartlepool United Retained List Review

In this article, I will be going through the retained list that was released on Tuesday and sharing my thoughts on opinions on the subject matter.

Alex Lacey

Overall I think it was fair that Lacey was released. Since arriving at the club in 2022, he’s struggled massively with injuries and he hasn’t really had a good run in the side. If he stays fit and is able to be available for a full season, then he will find a club sooner rather than later.

Edon Pruti

I think Pruti leaving the club is best for both parties. Despite featuring in pre season and at the start of the season, he hasn’t found the same form and has struggled when featuring. Pruti is young and has time to grow so I think it’s best for both parties that he leaves the club.

Brody Paterson

Since arriving from Scotland in 2022, Paterson has really struggled. Only featuring, Paterson has really struggled since arriving and has been on two loan spells while at the club. Likely to see him return to the SPFL in the summer.

Callum Cooke

I think this was a very controversial decision as I believe Callum Cooke on his day can be one of the best players in this league, however recently his attitude hasn’t been good enough and he has put in some very poor performances. I think he has the makings of a League Two player but he needs to sort his head out and stop putting in low effort in his games.

Tom Crawford

Overall I think this is another controversial move. Crawford has been very good this season and he been one of our best performers. However the question is does he fit Darren Sarll’s tactic? Overall I don’t think he does so releasing him is the best option but I believe he will be back in the NL very soon.

Mika Ndjoli

Probably the easiest decision in this list. Ndjoli hasn’t featured since January 2023 and wasn’t included in this year’s squad list. It’s a shame because he clearly hasn’t been good enough and will most likely drop to National League North or further down the leagues.

Chris Wreh

A harsh decision but one I think will benefit both parties. Wreh is a very talented player but due to the outstanding performances of Joe Grey and Mani Dieseruvwe he hasn’t featured. We will likely see Wreh join Tamworth soon as he has been on two different loan spells at the club.

Josh Umerah

On his day he can be one of the best strikers in the National League, however he has struggled this season due to injuries and other factors. I won’t be shocked to see him back in the league with another side next season.

My Thoughts

Overall I think the retained list was very fair. This season we have been poor and getting rid of certain players will allow us to grow as a club and hopefully gain promotion next season.
