Today Panathinaikos faces Maccabi Netanya at Leoforos Alexandras. Maybe this match will be the last of Panathinaikos at Leoforos that we loved so much. A stadium that brings back so many memories. European nights that will always be etched in the hearts of all Panathinaikos fans, huge victories with behemoths and many trophies passed through this historic stadium.
Leoforos will one day be torn down. It will become a museum and the area of Leoforos will be exploited by the Municipality of Athens in exchange for Panathinaikos to play in Votanikos, in a much larger, more sophisticated stadium and according to UEFA standards. Even if Leoforos does not exist where it is today, all Panathinaikos will remember this historic stadium that gave them smiles on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays if we had a European game.
Our Leoforos, our house and all our history will never be forgotten. It will be a sad day when we see bulldozers demolishing our “house”, but we will know that through our hearts and our minds Leoforos will be always there, in the same place as it was all these years.
