Giorgi Marmardashvili overview
Giorgi is the current goalkeeper of Valenica C.F. He is 23 years old, turning 24 on September 29th and Liverpool have signed the Georgian superstar for a fee of €35M but will remain at valencia for the remainder of the 2024/25 season and officially join the Merseyside club in July of 2025. Giorgi really came onto the season as a top goalkeeper after his very impressive campaign for Georgia in the 2024 Euros in Germany. Playing a big part in Georgia’s success leading them to the round of 16 for the first time in the nations history. In the Euros, Mamardashvili had an average match rating of 7.48, keeping 1 clean sheet, making 30 saves and having an average save rate of 7.50 per 90.
Liverpools goalkeeper state
Liverpool have 2 recent first team goalkeepers in Alisson Becker and Coaimhin Kelleher. Despite not actually leaving, Kelleher has been seen to be on his way out for the last 2 years due to wanting first team football which just cannot be guaranteed at Anfield. Alisson Becker is also not getting any younger, he is already 31 years old, turning 32 on October 2nd. This will seem young for a goalkeeper but Alisson has hinted after the signing of Mamardashvili that he’s not getting any younger and it would be good for the club for a new young goalkeeper to come in and he won’t stand in the way of that either. This indicates that alisson has maybe 3 years maximum left at Anfield
Why is this transfer smart?
In my opinion this transfer is smart because Liverpool are getting ahead of the curve by getting a good young goalkeeper in early, he may not be fully ready for first team premier league football yet but they are securing his services early to make sure no other club can take him in the mean time, hence why he has stayed at Valencia for the remainder of this season.
