Hartlepool United August Review

In this article I will be reviewing Hartlepool’s August and will be reviewing what we have done well and done wrong.

August started with an away trip to Yeovil with 328 Poolies including myself making the long journey to Huish Park. Pools would win this came 1-0 with a Jack Hunter goal and I personally believe this has been the best performance of the season so far. Next we hosted Southend in our first home game of the season. Pools were able to keep another clean sheet under pretty difficult circumstances following a red card for captain Luke Waterfall but we weren’t able to find a goal as we drew 0-0. Next was an away fixture against Tamworth. Pools were able to keep another clean sheet was we won 1-0 viva a Joe Grey goal. Next we hosted Wealdstone at the Vic and we conceded our first league goal of the season, however a 90th minute equaliser from Mani Dieseruvwe ensured that we picked up a point. Next was a bank holiday game against Woking, Pools started the game well with a brace from Joe Grey ensuring that we would go 2-0 up in the first 30 minutes. However a Jack Hunter red card would see us slip our 2-0 lead and end up losing our first game of the season 3-2. The month ended with Pools hosting Braintree. A game with no real action and we should draw 0-0 with Luke Waterfall being sent off for the second time and meaning in 6 games that Pools would have 3 red cards.

My Thoughts

Overall I’m pretty happy about how this month has gone for Pools. Having 3 red cards is not ideal but keeping 4 clean sheets in 6 games is a real positive. I have faith with Sarll and this squad that we can get a playoff position and potentially return to the EFL.
