Not the greatest of matches from the Rapids, but it’s enough to secure a spot in the 2024 MLS Cup Play-Offs. Over the course of this week the Rapids played in 2 matches, and new signing Reggie Cannon made his debut and got his first start in a Rapids uniform.
First and foremost, the disaster class that was against Sporting Kansas City. Wednesday night was a miserable one and for sure a night to forget for the Rapids, falling 4-1 on the road. From minute 1 to minute 90, the Rapids were thoroughly outplayed, being outshot 31 to 6. The one bright side of this night was that center-back, Michael Edwards, got his first professional goal. Oh, and Reggie Cannon made his debut off the bench as well!
Now let’s get into the nice side of things, as the Rapids bounced back against Toronto winning 2-0 at home, and securing a play-off spot along with the win. This now means that for the first time since 2021, the Colorado Rapids are back in the post season! Colorado looked a lot more sharp, both offensively and defensively. But the highlight of the night was Reggie Cannon getting his first start, and scoring his first goal to go along with it. No better time than that for him to get the goal that ultimately won us the match.
The Rapids are far from finished in their season however, anything can happen and the Burgundy Boys must remain vigilant if they want to host a play-off game in the first round, and hopefully in later rounds.
