The Rapids-Train is slowly starting to derail. Currently being on a 3 match losing streak, and having lost 4 of their last 5 matches. Well what exactly has gone wrong?
One of our biggest strengths this year fell on one man being seemingly everywhere. Cole Bassett. Cole has been MIA recently due to a hamstring injury and as a result we have really suffered in the win department. Playing as a box-to-box midfielder, and seemingly with infinite stamina, he is a key anchor to not only our midfield but also our team as a whole. And now with Ronan being paired up with Larraz, it’s left this hole in our team that really only Cole Bassett can fill.
As well as that, I think fatigue is also playing a part into this downfall. At the end of the first half of the season in May-June, the Rapids went on a very bad run. Losing to RSL, Houston, Vancouver, and only getting a draw against Minnesota. The Rapids then went on a 2 week break for INTL duties, and it allowed us time to recover. And then went on to beat Austin FC by a score of 2-0. Now, we see ourselves get another 2 week break, and then end the break with another match against Austin.
Overall, being on bad form like this towards the end of the season is never going to be a good sign, however, I don’t think this will be some major downfall for the Rapids that will lead into 2025 (at least, I hope not). Let’s give this team some time, as Cole should be back come post season time, and with the Rapids fully healthy I think we will make some noise in the postseason, just like how we did in the Leagues Cup.
