York City are currently struggling in the National League this season but I genuinely believe that next season they will get champions of the league, in this article I will be detailing what has gone wrong for York this season but why expectations should be for next season.
What Has Gone Wrong This Season
After finishing 19th in the 2022/23 season, York City had high hopes coming into the new season. The club had recently been purchased by businessman Matt Uggla who splashed the cash in the summer on players such as Dipo Akinyemi who scored 28 goals in the Scottish League the previous season and brought in experienced National League players such as Tyler Cordner, Callum Howe, Callum Harroitt and many more. York started the season with Micheal Morton as manager who is a York fan and the man who was able to keep York in National League last season, however Morton would be sacked 6 games into the season after a poor start. Former Solihull Moors manager Neal Ardey was given the job but despite making City harder to beat, York weren’t winning games so Ardey was sacked on the 26th February. One day later City appointed Adam Hinshelwood as the new manager and currently York find themselves 21st in the table 1 point below the relegation zone.
Why I Believe York Will Win The League Next Season
The appointment of Adam Hinshelwood is the main reason why I believe York will win the league next season. At Hinshelwood’s previous club Worthing, he managed to guide them from the Southern Premier League to second in the National League South, Hinshelwood likes his teams to play a fast progressive style which has seen them been successful over his managerial career, his sides tend to attack the game from the off and he wants his teams to kill teams early and not give them time or space to attack the game. This style has seen Worthing score the most goals this season with an outstanding 75 so far this season. Hinshelwood tends to find players in lower divisions and build them up and sell them for profit. The prime example of this Ollie Pearce who has scored 35 goals in 33 games this season. I believe Hinshelwood will be able to get the best out of this York squad while using youth players and developing current players.
Finally Thoughts
This article could look rather silly in a few weeks if York are relegated this season, however I have full confidence in Hinshelwood and his team to turn around York’s fortunes. If Uggla is willing to back Hinshelwood in the summer then I fully believe he will be able to rebuilt and get players in who will be able to take York back to the Football League.
