While the tension in the Greek Superleague has reached its highest point in the four-way battle for the title, the government and the league are preparing for the next step in the changes in league football. From today, the digitally personalized ticket will be introduced in the top division.
For two months there were ghost games in the Superleague that were still familiar to everyone from the corona pandemic.
This time was used to take the first steps. A change in the law increased the penalties for projectiles and for burning and throwing pyrotechnics, firecrackers and flares. Now there is a risk of hefty fines up to several years in prison in addition to mandatory exclusion from the stadium. The next step was to install high-resolution surveillance cameras in all stadiums. While newer arenas such as the “Georgios-Karaiskakis” in Piraeus or the new AEK Stadium already had these, new systems had to be installed elsewhere. The monitoring of the cameras is handed over to the responsible authorities the day before a game. Only then will permission to play be granted.
The league sees the whole project as positive, as league boss Minas Lysandrou welcomed it to ANT1: “In order to create a safe environment in the stadiums, we all have to work together. We are in constant communication with the responsible ministries for internal security, digitalization and sport “Because all of our goals are the same. Football must also use technology to ensure the safety of the stadiums and the comfort of the fans, we will continue to progress step by step.”
